Expressive Arts Therapy

We come into the world like a story stone with our entrusted narrative tucked inside. When all that we are drops into the ocean that is our life, our story ripples…

Sometimes words are too much…

Imagine a playful, creative, and life-affirming way of connecting to the places within you that may feel painful, rigid, overwhelming and maybe even blocked. Expressive Arts is a multi-modal, arts-based approach towards creative, communal, and therapeutic transformation. We might paint, we might move, we might explore sound.

Through a listening approach to the story within you, expressive arts offers multiple ways for us to connect with what is present, because sometimes, words just can’t communicate the truth of the experience in the way art and expression can.

Sometimes words are too much…

Have you ever felt like you just can’t ‘go there’, and the idea of telling the story about ‘what happened’ is just ‘too much’? Expressive Arts is a way to safely, somatically, and holistically create an opening in what may be causing an experience of ‘too much, too big, too full’ and warmly allowing space for things to move without words.

Through an intermodal approach we can let art making through visual, movement, theatricality, music, ritual, poetry, song, craft and more do the heavy lifting of the communication so there’s no risk of pushing into places not ready or wanting words at this time.

We can be heard, seen, known, witnessed and believed without words.

I am currently finishing up my first year as an Expressive Arts Therapy Student at WHEAT – Winnipeg’s Expressive Arts Therapy Institute and I have three places/ways we can work together during my practicum:

While I am in practicum, all sessions are based on a sliding scale up to $75/session

Sessions are 75 minutes long, within a 90 minute block of time.

No arts experience is necessary. Bring yourself, your heart and your willingness to be heard.
